Dayton QT255-4 10" Quatro Subwoofer 4 Ohm
The Quatro Series subwoofers have been designed and built based on the well-respected platform of the Dayton Series II woofers. By implementing a 4 ohm voice coil and extending the excursion capabilities, the Quatro woofers now become serious contenders for home theater and automotive use. The long excursion design and high sensitivity allows you to take advantage of modest power amplifiers, while the relatively high DC resistance makes them very friendly to 4-ohm stable amps and will not cause overheating or other amplifier stability problems. Specifications: * Power Handling: 200 watts RMS/400 watts max * VCdia: 2" * Le: 1.82 mH *Impedance: 4 ohms * Re: 3.40 ohms * Frequency range: 30-200 Hz * Magnet weight: 44 oz. * Fs: 30 Hz * SPL: 92.3 dB 2.83V/1m, 89.3 dB 1W/1m * Vas: 2.11 cu. ft. * Qms: 9.92 * Qes: .29 * Qts: .29 * Xmax: 7.94mm * Dimensions: Overall Diameter: 10", Cutout Diameter: 9", Mounting Depth: 4-3/4".

Automotive:

The large magnet, rubber surround, and heavy-duty steel frame employed by the Quatro subwoofers make them exceptional for car audio use. While they may not offer the extremely high excursion capabilities of some of the more expensive subwoofers on the market, the Quatro subs can easily handle several hundred watts of power both thermally and mechanically. In their recommended automotive sealed boxes, none of the Quatro woofers will exceed Xmax even at 500 watts! When you stop to consider that the average automotive subwoofer install only has 150 to 200 watts of clean power available per driver, you realize that most of the very costly Xmax you are paying for goes to waste. The extra 5 mm of Xmax took twice the money out of your wallet, and you didn't even gain any output!

The beauty of using the Quatro subwoofers in your vehicle is that the output level and the low-frequency cutoff of the drivers is designed to match perfectly with the rest of your stereo system. We all know that the larger the woofer, the more bass you will be able to get out of them. However, it is just as important to have smooth bass with a good transition to the rest of your speakers.

The Quatro sealed box cutoffs have been optimized to combine with an automobile's natural cabin gain to yield a flat frequency response. The larger the vehicle, the lower the frequency at which the cabin gain kicks in. Therefore, the larger woofers with the lower F3's will produce accurate and even bass in large vehicles, while the smaller woofers will mate well with smaller cars. When matched properly, the result is bass that is smooth and tight without the boominess typically found in the auto sound industry. Dayton Loudspeaker guarantees that the Quatro subwoofers will produce the tightest and cleanest bass that your car has ever heard!

Home Theatre:

In the home theatre environment, a vented alignment will generally yield more impressive results. The vented enclosures reduce the cone excursion enabling higher output at low frequencies. While the Quatro Series subwoofers may not calculate out to particularly low F3's, this is somewhat deceiving.

The high efficiency, low Q design causes output levels that peak at a frequency above 100 Hz. This high reference sensitivity makes the F3 also appear to be high. However, since most home theatre subwoofers are crossed at 80 Hz or below, the reference level is reduced drastically whereby the F3 will typically be below 30 Hz even for the 10" model. The tuning frequencies will typically be in the mid-to-high 20's, which will minimize cone excursion at critical home theatre frequencies. With a typical 250 watt subwoofer plate amplifier, the Quatro subwoofers will produce room shaking bass, well above THX certification levels. It is now possible to build a high-performance ported home theatre subwoofer for less than $200 in parts!
